About this Program

S.T.E.M is where our future scientists, doctors, researchers, mathematicians, scholars, professors,… (well you get the idea) will enjoy their next big adventure in the maths and sciences.  At The CLUB for YOUth, every day is a science fair.   Your child will actively participate in thought building, touching, and tasting how science affects their life. And we know that when a child is exposed to something at a young age, it has a powerful impact on making future life decisions. In ‘experiential learning’ the experience provides the platform for learning; your child is encouraged to work things out for themself rather than being “taught”.  This powerful teaching method is proven to increase knowledge retention –helping learners become the problem solvers of the future.

What your child will experience

Expect to see a whole lot of new and exciting innovations coming home!   We combine important and relevant dates and holidays with a fun and hands-on project that your child will love.

  • Father’s Day: we engineered business cardholders
  • Halloween:  Skeletons out of construction paper…boo!
  • Solar Ovens:  We cooked food in solar ovens. Yum!
  • National Moon Day:  You child visited the moon, right here at The CLUB for YOUth (you’ll need to join to find out how we got our tickets)

Don’t be surprised when your child helps you cut down on electric bills.  Or maybe is the next person in your family to apply for M.I.T. or wait,  is there a doctor in the house?  There is now, your child!

There is a Chinese proverb that reads, “I hear, and I forget. I see, and I remember. I do, and I understand.” This proverb is the philosophy behind kinesthetic learning, a model that promotes learning through doing. Kinesthetic learning is a hands-on approach to education that is working, in the CLUB’s STEM room our CLUB members are “doing” just that! The skills the children use in the process of making something-fine motor skills like cutting and hammering, math skills like assessing areas and shape with tools they hold and use, and planning how to go from concept to product- support critical thinking and cognitive development.

STEAM brings together the critical components of how and what and laces them together with why. Think of STEAM as teaching through integrated network hubs where information is curated, shared, explored, and molded into new ways of seeing and being through collaborative risk-taking and creativity. At the CLUB STEAM, experiences often involve making something-a work of art, an invention designed to solve a problem, an experiment to investigate a question. The technologies we use during STEAM activities, from crayons and paper to magnets and robots, can spur creative thinking, help build vocabulary, and support problem-solving skills.

Decision Making
STEAM education can enhance students’ deductive and inductive logic thinking ability and cultivate students to develop practical problems to solve the necessary flexibility and adaptability needed in real life. This means that students are using the skills and process learning in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics to think deeply, ask not easily found on the internet questions and solve the problems themselves. They begin to understand the ways that these disciplines work together. Our CLUB members become increasingly curious about the world around them and feel empowered to change it for the better.

Disciplines have long pioneered and employed a unique Integrated STEM Literacy (ISL)- where text and visuals are intimately linked. We see the power of dynamics of ISL in the lab, workshop, and now in the digital visual revolution. Here at The CLUB, our staff are recognizing that the ways scientists use visuals and text can help us better support students in every process of education, whereas enlarging our view of STEAM, of literacy, and of learning itself!

Inventiveness
At the CLUB for YOUth STEAM education guides students to contact the knowledge between different disciplines, and continuously enhance the members’ logical thinking ability, problem-solving ability to innovate, peer cooperation ability, and self-realization of the incentive capacity. Therefore, STEAM education is conducive to the development of a creative and innovative spirit of the comprehensive development of people, to support them as future inventors and creators.

Improved Academic Performance
Research reveals that students in activity-based programs scored 20 percentile units higher than the comparison group. These students also scored higher in creativity, attitude, perception, logic development, language development, science content, and mathematics. Students who are economically or academically disadvantaged, gain the most from activity-based programs, where the hands-on experimental approach serves as an equalizer in the classroom. The CLUB provides the opportunity to participate in the activity-based programs so that the members' performance academically will show in all of the other aspects of their education.

 Our Day

They are dreamers, builders, doers and go-getters!  They will design, engineer, and compute their way to understanding how science and math are an integral part of everyday life.  Our kids experience technology, ranging from basic computer skills, productivity software, and safe internet use.
