Physical Fitness and Nutrition

About this Program

Health and nutrition you say?  My child will never, never, ever want to learn about that! Because well, just never.  Right?  WRONG!  Our secret recipe for teaching kids how to be healthy is that we show all kids that being healthy and active is just plain FUN!  So much fun that they might be able to teach YOU a thing or two about healthy living.  Just maybe.

**Warning:  your child may change your shopping list.

What they experience

Your child will participate in two equal but separate parts – physical and nutritional.  We partner with the Mohave County Health Department to offer a hands-on immersion that combines learning with experiencing… delicious food, that is! We bet you don’t know that the more colorful food is, the healthier it is for you (and no we don’t mean multi-colored Jelly Beans!)  We’re talking about a beautiful food rainbow that we created out of delicious fruits and vegetables.  And we don’t mind telling you that this was one rainbow that disappeared FAST into the tummies of your kids.  We gamify nutrition facts — we bet you don’t know the difference in the amounts of sugar in flavored versus plain yogurt  — or that you can make your own, healthy version of fruit yogurt by adding fresh fruit to plain yogurt. Your child does! It’s all just plain fun when they play “eat this not that .”

It’s really not too difficult to get a kid to start moving more when they come to The CLUB for YOUth.  And we know what you’re going to think– “that’s just not possible!”  Well, we can and we do get them running, jumping and moving their bodies…let’s just say that we have that magic ability when it comes to fun and games.  If you don’t believe us, check out some of our videos.  But equally important, we tailor each physical activity to the age and ability of each child.  Our programs are fun and inclusive so that no child feels left out.  We also include an understanding of how to get fit without getting hurt.  So, what are you waiting for?  Sign your child up today! (Maybe you want to come too?  Sorry, it’s just for kids.)

Impact of Physical Fitness and Nutrition

Motor Skills
Motor Skills
Physical activity plays an important role in developing the brain and supporting essential mental functions. Exercise leads to improved motor skills (such as hand-eye coordination), better thinking and problem-solving, stronger attention skills and, improved learning. Not surprisingly, these all combine to benefit school performance. Even the simple act of playing outside with friends has been linked to children performing better on tests and assignments.
Improved Academic Performance
Improved Academic Performance
Good Nutrition helps students show up at school prepared to learn. Because improvements in nutrition make students healthier, students are likely to have fewer absences and attend class more frequently. Studies show that malnutrition leads to behavior problems, and that sugar has a negative impact on child behavior. However, these effects can be counteracted when children consume a balanced diet that includes protein, fat, complex carbohydrates, and fiber. Thus, students will have more time in class, and students will have fewer interruptions in learning over the course of the school year. Additionally, students’ behavior may improve and cause fewer disruptions in the classroom, creating a better learning environment for each student in the class.
Visual Learning
Visual Learning
Drawing, sculpting with clay and threading beads on a string all develop visual-spatial skills, which are more important than ever.
